A statement from LIUNA Mid-Atlantic Organizing Director Keon Shim in response to the union election results for Richmond Public Schools’ transportation workers: 

Richmond, Va. (June 9, 2023) - A majority of transportation workers at Richmond Public Schools selected Laborers' International Union of North America Local 804 (LIUNA Local 804) to represent them in their efforts to secure better pay, benefits and working conditions. In an election held Thursday, June 8 and Friday, June 9, the 220 transportation workers who make up the bargaining unit voted 76 to 58 in favor of LIUNA Local 804.

By choosing to unionize, Richmond Public Schools’ transportation workers acknowledged that they are stronger together.

LIUNA Local 804 stands ready to negotiate with Richmond Public Schools for the pay, benefits and job security that the transportation workers deserve. While LIUNA may have won the election, the transportation workers are the true winners.
